You are reading this blog so we are assuming that the festival season has started or you are among those people who are very curious to know about the beauty of this festival. Diwali is a festival of lights. This is one of the major festivals celebrated by Indians. Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, etc. The festival is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar month of Kartika.

The term Diwali is derived from the Sanskrit word “depa” meaning “light” and “avali” meaning “row or line”. Dipavali or Deepavali means “a row of lights”. Deepawali depicts the spiritual “victory of light over darkness”.

As per Hindu culture, devotees celebrate this festival by worshipping Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity, and Ganesha, god of wisdom and the remover of obstacles. On this day Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya with his wife Sita along with his brother Laxman after defeating Ravana in Lanka and serving 14 years of exile (vanvaas).  Diwali is celebrated after twenty days after the Dussehra festival.

As per Jains, this day marks the final liberation of Mahavir. As per Sikhs, this day marks the release of Shri Guru Hargobind from a Mughal Empire prison. They celebrated this day as Bandi Chhor Diwas. In India, almost all religions celebrate this festival with full of energy and give sweets to each other.
